Motions of The Sun - Design Issues
The background colour chosen was a bright white, as with directional lighting and the panels being raised of the wall, one of the properties of Rebecca's works, the casting of coloured shadows, comes into its own. The arc was hand-painted in gold acrylic, and the black baseline in a similar medium. Compass references for East, South and West were self-adhesive lettering below the baseline.
The wall itself was of a concrete block construction, clad with a stud and plasterboard surface. In order to mount the panels 80mm off the wall surface, steel bars 200mm long were driven into the wall and secured with a cold setting panel resin. The ends were bored out to take a machine screw which retains the panel. There were four such supports for each panel, the weight of each panel being approx. 2.6-2.8Kg. Lighting was supplied by two banks of halogen spots, on adjustable tracks.
