Training Objectives
By the end of the session participants should have gained:
- An understanding of the consequences of prejudice and stereotyping on small minority groups especially the transgender community,
- An ability to distinguish the differences between the stereotype and the reality of gender identity for trans people,
- An understanding the specific terms and words associated with trans people and the correct usage of them,
- The knowledge to distinguish between the three terms sex, gender and sexuality,
- An insight into the lives of trans people, the problems they encounter and the ways in which society can accept and support them,
- An awareness of the legal position of trans people in the UK
- An awareness of the main benefits of the Gender Recognition Act 2004 and other legislation to trans people,
- Clear recognition of their responsibilities under Section 22 of the Gender Recognition Act and the legal consequences of non-compliance,
- The implications for public authorities of the Gender Duty Code of Practice & proposed legislative changes.
