Training Objectives

By the end of the session participants should have gained:

An understanding of the consequences of prejudice and stereotyping on small minority groups especially the transgender community,
An ability to distinguish the differences between the stereotype and the reality of gender identity for trans people,
An understanding the specific terms and words associated with trans people and the correct usage of them,
The knowledge to distinguish between the three terms sex, gender and sexuality,
An insight into the lives of trans people, the problems they encounter and the ways in which society can accept and support them,
An awareness of the legal position of trans people in the UK
An awareness of the main benefits of the Gender Recognition Act 2004 and other legislation to trans people,
Clear recognition of their responsibilities under Section 22 of the Gender Recognition Act and the legal consequences of non-compliance,
The implications for public authorities of the Gender Duty Code of Practice & proposed legislative changes.
